Personal Growth

Personal growth involves moving in a direction that brings us closer to who we want to be, closer to being the best person that we can be. It involves developing yourself and enjoying the process. It will vary from person to person and depends on our gifts and skills as well as our values, goals, and our idea of happiness/ success.

Personal growth involves:
Gaining insight into self
Acceptance of Self
Having an awareness of your goals
Developing your strengths
Addressing weaknesses that interfere with reaching goals
Learning from your experiences
Gaining & successfully applying knowledge & skills
Viewing obstacles & challenges as opportunities to learn & grow
Understanding the power of managing you
Focusing your energy on things you can control & change – your thoughts, feelings & behaviour
Accepting others as they are involves accepting that it is not your right nor duty to manage others

You will often hear people comment that someone, particularly a younger person, is not working up to their full potential. It is a skill in itself to actively strive for personal growth and positive change. It requires awareness, motivation, and focus. Personal growth involves making the most of the assets, skills, resources and opportunities that we have. It allows us to view life as a fascinating journey. It feels good when we gain insight, learn more about ourselves and others as we continually strive to be happy. There is no end to the fine-tuning that we can do. We are all a work-in-progress; this is part of the fun. There is always more to learn … when we are ready.
